As of Christmas eve, Neil McCormick is no longer a resident of the Barge. He didn't graduate, but as far as I'm aware, he's okay. He's just...not here anymore. I believe he's returned home.

I'm sorry I couldn't give him the help he needed, but at heart, he's truly a good young man. I'm sure that wherever he is, things will work out for him. I believe he may have returned home in order to work out whatever he couldn't here.

I think...it may be time for a change.

[Truthfully, Martha had already been missing her friend, and that was part of the reason that she had suspected it would be coming.]

Maybe we'll see you, in my world, somehow.

Maybe.

[She won't say that she doesn't think that could happen. She's not really a part of any world anymore; she's dead. Her home is a place removed.

She laughs a little.]

It's really not fair, you know, that most of the best things in my life all happened to me after it was over. I didn't have real friends when I was alive. They all disappeared when things got hard for me.

[There was a sad smile, and Martha just touched Libby's face again.]

At least you got them. You're very lucky, Libby.

[Martha sniffled a bit now, and she threw her arms around her friend.]

I miss you already, Libby.

I miss you too.

[Libby hugged her tightly.]

I wish this didn't feel so much like choosing between the friends I've made here and the friends I have there. That isn't what I mean by this.

We know that, Libby, but honestly, I'm amazed you've been here this long. I don't know if I could have done it. I don't think I could. You should go and be happy with him, love.

I didn't want to leave any of you.

[She nodded.]

I will. I can't leave him alone any longer, and it isn't just because I need him. There was never anyone else for him; can you understand that? He carried a torch for me until he died, and he lived for so long...

We've got so much lost time to make up for.

We know that, Libby. Really. I understand completely, I just miss you.

Think of me often, yeah?

Not a day will go by where I don't, Martha. I promise.

When will you be going?

[Her voice is soft and sad sounding.]

We should do something fun before you go. I feel like there's so much I should tell ya and so little time to do it.

In a few days, I think. [Emphasis on the 'think'. She's not confident that the Barge will adequately respond to her intentions. She's actually a little nervous that she'll disappear in her sleep and wake up home.]

Like what?

[Martha knew that 'think' bit. She swallowed for a moment and then nodded.]

Well, I'm... dating Severus, for starters.

[Libby smiles a little.]

Would you like me to say I'm surprised?

[Martha blinked at that.]

Are ya not?

[There was a little perplexed grin... she hadn't expected that.]

Not entirely. I'm surprised that you are right now...but not that you probably would have started seeing him at some point.

[Martha had confided in her about Severus and related relationship troubles back when she was seeing the Doctor. She'd picked up on a few things since then--vibes, but no evidence. She's just surprised it's already happening.]

Oh. So far the reaction's been 'Are you serious?' so I guess I'm a bit surprised. I've kinda been a little in love with him for a very long time, really. It was just... unexpected that it came out.

[She grinned to her friend and hugged her again, because she couldn't believe that she was going, finally, after all this time.]

Everyone deserves to be loved. You just see in him what others can't, that's all.

[She hugs Martha back. She'd never ask "are you serious" in that way, because she'd been on the receiving end of comments like that time and again and knew how incredibly insulting it was, not only to Hugo but to her.]

[She just held onto her friend and sniffled a bit. While she was truly ecstatic for Libby, she was still feeling the sting of losing someone whom she'd been so close with for so long.]

I vote we get drunk.

[Libby giggled at that, through the tears that seemed ever-present.] That sounds like a wonderful idea. We never really got to go drinking together, you know; disaster kept cropping up whenever we set a date. Let's make up for that right now.

We definitely should. And thanks to Christmas we've got enough liquor to do it.

[Martha chuckled softly; there was enough booze for everyone to be drunk for a month.]
